The main question in our niche of collecting usually revolves around the authenticity of an item. We try not to acquire items unless they are accompanied by an original Certificate of Authenticity endorsed by the studio which made the film. Some studios have set up partnerships with distributors who are responsible for organizing and liquidating the assets of a production after it is completed. StarPower collectibles has sourced out the most reliable suppliers and back the Authenticity of our items 100%. If an independent source can verify that an item is in error you can return the item in the same condition received for a full refund, minus shipping costs. We always include our original acquisition Certificate of Authenticity with your purchase.

The certification is your best sign of authenticity. These mammoth film studios make hundreds of millions of dollars making motion pictures every year and public relations is of extreme importance to them. They are not going to allow their names to be used to endorse fake collectibles from their titles. Instead what they have done is make these collectibles available to the public by backing the collecting industry and offering their endorsement on the Certificates. If you are thinking of buying ANY movie prop, wardrobe or collectible be wary if the Certificate of Authenticity is not backed by the production studio that made the movie, or at very least a letter from someone who is credited on screen. There are reputable dealers out there that can be trusted, but there are others which we have seen selling items and offering only their own certificate stating the items authenticity. We would consider such a purchase extremely risky.

Often times there are 3, 4, 6 or more of the same item used in the shooting process of a movie, depending on a wide variety of things. What type of abuse is required to be put on the item? How many takes? How many different scenes is this item used in? As a rule of thumb, for example, if you see actor Seann William Scott fighting, wrestling, running through the jungle, falling down in the jungle, getting in a jeep accident and fighting some more, for the first 30 minutes of a movie, all the while wearing the same shirt…well you can bet that the wardrobe department had many of that shirt on hand. Shooting that much of the final cut would have likely taken place over many different days. This is why it is not always possible to determine exactly which scenes, exactly which frames show your item on screen. The way we see it here at StarPower Collectibles is that if the studio that made the film is endorsing the items authenticity, then you now own at least a piece of the item you see on screen. Whether or not it is your exact item in each and every frame that the item appears becomes the question. If you can somehow ascertain which scenes are your exact item, then you have yourself a bona fide exact and authentic item right off the screen! [ie: our Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) silk floral shirt from 50 FIRST DATES]. Your next step is to determine how much screen time your item gets. If you cannot, then you must be satisfied that the one you own will be seen on screen certainly at some point (as long as you have a studio endorsed C of A). Sometimes you can determine exactly which point, sometimes not. So even if there are 3 or 4 other items like yours out there…then it is only you and those other 3 or 4 owners who can say “I own that item, from that movie” with a big smile on your face. We hope that this has answered your questions regarding Authenticity. However feel free to email any further inquiries to: service@spc4me.com
